Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of refractive anomalies on contact lens wearers¡¯ quality of life.
Methods: We analyzed a total of 103 contact lens users without eye disease through a vison test and an automated refraction test after the patients filled in an National Eye Institute Visual Function (NEI-VF) questionnaire.
Results: Astigmatism was observed in 66.0% of the contact lens wearers. Of the total participants, 45.0% wore lenses without undergoing a refraction test. and 30.0% of the participants had different refractive powers on both eyes but were prescribed lenses with the same refractive power; 21.0% of the participants had a self-prescription. We found a significant correlation between the refractive error, spherical refractive power, and cylindrical power in both the eyes after the use of contact lenses. There was a decrease in the near vision, distant vision, and social quality of life of the participants.
Conclusions: In conclusion, we found a significant correlation between the refractive corrections in contact lens wearers following vision tests and automated refraction tests, as well as a questionnaire analysis for near vision, distant vision, and social functioning of the participants. Therefore, the degree of vision correction through contact lens use significantly affects patients¡¯ quality of life.
